What to expect at your appointment

At Brisbane Specialist Group, we are committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. We know that visiting a specialist can sometimes feel unfamiliar, so we’ve outlined what you can expect before, during, and after your appointment with us.
Step 1 - Before Your Appointment

To make the most of your consultation, please take a few steps to prepare:

  • Referral: Ensure you have a valid referral from your GP or another specialist.
**This is required to claim Medicare rebates.
  • What to Bring
    • Your referral letter
    • Medicare card and private health insurance details (if applicable)
    • Recent blood test results, imaging (X-rays, ultrasounds, CT/MRI scans), and any other relevant reports
    • A list of your current medications and any allergies
    • A support person (if you wish), especially if you expect to discuss complex treatment options
  • Preparation
    • Some appointments may require fasting, urine collection, or other preparation. If this applies to your appointment, our staff will provide clear instructions at the time of booking.
Step 2 - On Arrival
  • Check-in
    • Please arrive 10–15 minutes early to allow time for registration and paperwork.
    • Our friendly reception team will confirm your details and ensure all necessary information is ready for your specialist.
  • Environment
    • Our clinic is designed to be welcoming and professional. If you have accessibility needs (e.g., wheelchair access, interpreter services), please let us know ahead of time so we can make your visit as smooth as possible.
Step 3 - During Your Appointment

Your consultation is designed to be thorough and collaborative:

  • Medical Review
    • Your specialist will review your medical history, symptoms, and any results you have brought with you.
  • Discussion
    • You will have the opportunity to explain your concerns, ask questions, and gain a clear understanding of your condition.
  • Examination & Investigations
    • A physical examination may be performed.
    • If further tests or imaging are needed, your specialist will arrange them and explain the reasons.
  • Management Plan
    • Together, you and your specialist will discuss treatment options, which may include lifestyle advice, medications, procedures, or ongoing monitoring.
    • Where appropriate, a follow-up appointment will be scheduled to track your progress.
Step 4 - After Your Appointment

We ensure your ongoing care is well supported:

  • Communication with Your GP
    • A detailed summary will be sent to your referring doctor to keep them updated about your diagnosis and management plan.
  • Further Tests or Referrals
    • If additional investigations or referrals are required, our team will help organise these and provide you with clear instructions.
  • Ongoing Support
    • If you have questions after your consultation, you are welcome to contact our clinic. Our staff will guide you or liaise with your specialist as needed.
